It's that time of year again when Art in Mayfair, running from 10 June to 7 July, partners with the Royal Academy of Arts to celebrate art, fashion, and culture across the district. Timed to coincide with the RA's annual Summer Exhibition, this immersive event sees world-leading fashion and jewellery houses team up with leading artists and galleries to transform this historic art district into a vibrant live show.
RA Schools student Lizzie Munn has been selected to present this year's prestigious Flag Commission, an annual highlight of Art in Mayfair. Munn's commission is a significant recognition of emerging talent in the art world. Visitors will see Munn's work, entitled 'The sun speaks,' flying above Bond Street from 10 June onwards.
This year's Sculpture Trail promises large-scale sculptures by world-renowned artists such as Gavin Turk, Pieter Obels, and David Breuer-Weil, alongside existing public works by Sean Scully, Dame Elisabeth Frink, Henry Moore, and Antony Gormley. Brands across Bond Street, Savile Row, and Mayfair will also participate, hosting mini-exhibitions, showcases, collaborations, talks, tours, and events. Don't miss Pomellato's collaboration with Japanese artist Yuki Aruga, inspired by the vibrant hues of Pomellato's Nudo collection and the rich traditions of Japanese fan art.
Gucci's Bond Street flagship, previously home to one of the world's oldest and most esteemed art dealers, pays homage to this legacy with a new curation of artwork through their highly regarded Art Program. Featured works include 'Living in your eyes' by John Giorno, 'Silence' by Bokani, and Linda Besemer's 'Zip Fold no.2.' The curation emphasises a continuous interplay between colour and weight, evoking a perpetual sense of contrast.
Paul Smith's Albemarle Street shop will host an important new exhibition by British painter Oliver Hemsley. "Dog Dad" explores Hemsley's deep connection with his beloved pet dogs, Plop and Viv. Hirsh will display "Urban Nature," a collection of plant sculptures and soundscapes by Justine Smith. As a collector of Justine's work, Sophia Hirsh is delighted to welcome guests to the Hirsh townhouse to view this unseen exhibition.
The bespoke Savile Row tailor and shirtmaker Dege & Skinner will showcase the work of W.G. Skinner, grandfather to the current Dege & Skinner Chairman, Michael Skinner. The work has been in the Skinner family since it was created at the start of the last century. Also on Savile Row, Hackett's Atelier will showcase over 30 original collages by Hormazd Narielwalla, permanently on display in the impressive townhouse. Narielwalla is best known for his intricate paper collages and assemblages, which originated on the surfaces of antique, vintage, and bespoke tailoring patterns.
Visitors can book tours and walks throughout Art in Mayfair, including 'The Icons of Mayfair' with Brown's Hotel. This unique curated tour, led by art critic Maeve Doyle, offers a 'who's who' around Mayfair, going behind the scenes in stores and galleries. The tour concludes with guests enjoying lunchtime cocktails at the famous Donovan Bar or the delights of chef Adam Byatt's Michelin-starred menu at Charlie's.
London-based street photographer Shane Taylor, co-founder/editor of Framelines Magazine, will host a now-annual photo walk exclusively for Art in Mayfair on Friday, 21 June 2024. For further information and booking, click HERE.
