German luxury maker Montblanc may be best known for its pens and watches, but it has also developed a distinctive range of leather goods, among which is the Extreme 3.0 range, now available in its New Bond Street boutique.
The collection features highly functional yet stylish leather pieces that come in contemporary shapes and vibrant colours. From the compact 142 cross-body bag in Fern Blue to the capacious black 146 open-tote bag, each piece caters to fashionable globetrotters, combining agility with polished design details.
Paying homage to the artistic heritage of the house, a distinctive embossed geometric pattern enhances the silver-coloured sling bag, cabin trolley and cardholder. The motif is inspired by an archive advertising poster designed by Grete Gross, Montblanc’s head of advertising in the 1920s, reflecting the rational yet bold visuals of the Bauhaus art movement.
Elsewhere, timeless models such as the envelope bag and the backpack feature the M LOCK 4810 buckle with a subtle reference to the “gorpcore” trend. Touching on the utilitarian outdoorsy aesthetic, the clasp in transparent Plexiglas reveals its sophisticated mechanism. Personalisation and practicality are further explored through a series of D-rings and hooks allowing smaller accessories to be clipped to larger pieces.
The Extreme 3.0 collection exemplifies Montblanc’s ability to expertly combine engineering with exquisite craftsmanship. Established in 1906 – by merchant Alfred Nehemias, engineer August Eberstein and stationery trader Claus-Johannes Voss – Montblanc made its name through the production of its distinctive pens. These feature the white star motif, which represents the snow-capped peak of the highest mountain in Europe, after which the brand is named. The white star also appears on the Extreme 3.0 leather designs, a subtle mark of quality and design excellence.
