Gual’s signature portraits, sculpted with thick impasto oil paint and a palette knife, have transformed the entrance hall and reception of sketch this spring, providing a breath of fresh air. Titled Silent Game, the exhibition takes inspiration from a chessboard, with the painting setting the rhythm of this timeless and masterful game.
On one side, an unchanging hue of monochromatic paintings represents the rules of the game; on the other, a variation of colorus suggests the individuality of each piece on the board. Balancing between structure and expression, Gual’s work invites you to pause, observe, and perhaps discover your own move in this game of shapes and colours.
Accompanying Gual’s paintings is furniture designed by the creative practice Buchanan Studio. Expertly crafted in England by a team of artists and artisans, the cloud-like comfort of the Studio Chairs draw guests to sit within the meditative exhibition of paintings.
Visit the exhibition from the 10th March - 27th April at sketch.
