Into the Archive: Georg Jensen’s New Exhibition

Georg Jensen Jewellery Homeware Archive Collection

In a striking tribute to its storied past, Georg Jensen is unveiling a new exhibition that celebrates the defining influence of mid-century design. Curated by newly appointed creative director Paula Gerbase, the exhibition will open on 15 January at the brand's flagship store in Mayfair.

Drawing from the Copenhagen archives, the display showcases a carefully selected collection of designs from the mid-1940s to the late 1960s. This pivotal era, marked by a commitment to functional forms, exceptional craftsmanship and simplicity, played a crucial role in shaping Georg Jensen’s style and ethos.

‘We have an incredible wealth of objects that demonstrate how Georg Jensen has consistently been at the forefront of some of the most significant global design movements of the past century, always with a bold and forward-thinking approach,’ says Gerbase. ‘We are entering a new chapter for the House, where the true depth of the archives will be unveiled.’

The exhibition is more than a celebration of history, it’s a signal of things to come. Opening as part of the store’s newly reimagined concept, the flagship aims to go beyond traditional retail, transforming into a dynamic space that celebrates the works of the Nordic region’s most visionary artists. The inaugural installation features a textile design by Danish artist Kim Naver, the first in a planned rotation of contemporary works.

The Mayfair flagship itself carries a rich narrative. First established in the 1920s, the original store redefined silverware in the UK, transforming it from exclusive opulence to something that embodied artistic innovation. Now, as it returns to its historical home, the brand is setting the stage for a future where its traditional heritage and contemporary vision coexist.

Whether exploring the beauty of mid-century forms or admiring the artistry of modern Nordic creators, Georg Jensen’s exhibition is an invitation to celebrate timeless design.
