Sacred & Profane: A New Exhibition At The Halcyon Gallery

Art Exhibition Halcyon Gallery

Sacred & Profane is a dynamic exhibition, exploring how artists reimagine religious iconography to address contemporary phenomena. Featuring works by eight artists, including Mitch Griffiths, Andy Warhol, and Dominic Harris, the show reinterprets religious art through a modern lens and creates a space where tradition meets the present, inviting reflection on what we hold sacred in the 21st century.

To support this theme, the gallery has been curated with a church nave in mind. The wall colours are inspired by those of Florentine churches and a purpose-built altar has been constructed as the focal point of the exhibition. The dialogue between images and objects is inspired by the way art is arranged in religious spaces.

Wander through the gallery and discover Mitch Griffiths' painting Shrine - a stunning portrait that conflates tradition with the contemporary for harrowing effect. The serene figure bathed in natural light looks evangelical, however modern day touches bring this religious looking portrait into the 21st century, with a onesie acting as a robe and a drone as a thorn crown.

Head to the Halycon Gallery at 148 New Bond Street to discover the collection for yourself - on show until the 20th April.
