What Editors are Wearing For London Fashion Week

London Fashion Week LFW Styling

From 20 to 24 February, fashion’s biggest names will once again parade the streets of London for a whirlwind of catwalks, soirées and trend-defining moments. After celebrating its 40th anniversary last year, this London fashion week promises to be bigger than ever. A hub of creativity, the city has birthed some of fashion’s most defining moments; from the first Burberry-check trench to the debuts of designers like McQueen, Galliano and Stella McCartney. There’s even been a front-row appearance from Queen Elizabeth II. From young, emerging designers to established houses, the schedule is jam-packed with an arena of talent – and as the rebel child of fashion month, no fabric, hue or hemline is off-limits.

But it’s not just the runways commanding attention, this is a week where street style reigns supreme. Whether darting between shows, sipping wellness shots at Alo’s scheduled breakfast or partying into the early hours, an outfit that balances style with practicality is vital. And where better to find the ultimate sartorial staples than London’s very own Bond Street? We caught up with a handful of editors to uncover their go-to fashion week looks and insider survival tips.

Lisa Armstrong, head of fashion, The Telegraph

‘Generally, I’m from the high-low school of dressing. There always has to be some tailoring in the mix because it looks and feels pulled together. The high? A Dior Bar jacket in blue – I love the feminine, classy cut. Plus, there’s a lot of waist focus in fashion and this is not overdone. Celine’s Chasseur jackets are another favourite, as are Loewe’s bags.'

Good tailoring is rule one. From expertly flared trousers to perfectly cinched waists, there’s no room for error when your outfit is under the fashion week microscope. McQueen, long celebrated as the vanguard of tailoring, continues to set the standard under the fresh creative direction of Seán McGirr. Head to the flagship store on Bond Street and invest in a matching pantsuit for an easy, polished look.

James Sleaford, editor, Icon France

‘Two of my favourite go-to brands on Bond Street are Celine Homme and Prada menswear. I will be carrying my invitations in my new belt bag by Prada. I love this bag – it has two generous compartments, which is great for storing invitations, magazines, hats, scarves and gloves for all eventualities. I will also be wearing my washed-out, oversized jeans that I bought from Celine menswear. I love that they give a punk twist to my look. I usually wear this with a very classic but warm Celine cashmere sweater. I love style but I love to keep warm too. And finally, I will wear my oversized coat by Prada. It’s tweed in style and sits just above my knees. It wears well with my jeans and trainers and adds that perfect protection for any winter weather.’

An editor’s bag is the ultimate survival kit. Peek inside and you’ll uncover everything from exclusive invitations to hidden snacks, essential for the long, on-the-go days. The perfect bag strikes a balance between form and function, and few do it better than Loewe, where Jonathan Anderson’s playful designs set the tone of the moment. Meanwhile, Hermès stays true to its heritage, delivering understated elegance through impeccable leather craftsmanship.

Alexandra Fullerton, former fashion director of Glamour UK and founder of My3Words.co

‘I will wear my eternal fashion week uniform of flat shoes (this time, the black patent criss-cross flats from Alaïa), straight, mid-blue jeans (the Abigail from Khaite) and a cashmere knit from N.Peal on Burlington Arcade. I need to dash across town, so comfort and practicality are key. I’d top it off with a blazer from McQueen and carry a Chanel 2.55 bag – this season I fancy something pastel. It’s not too far from my everyday working wardrobe and as I’m there to work and spot trends, I don’t want a peacock-y outfit. I’m focusing on classic chic, as always.’

Without doubt 2024 was the year of the ballet pump, and with their easy slip-on silhouette, it’s no surprise they continue to reign supreme. Whether it’s the minimalist Bottega Veneta intrecciato leather flats, Chloé’s charming Marcie ballerina pumps, or the signature satin Miu Miu iterations, these timeless classics are a perfect match for the non-stop pace of fashion week.

Anna Murphy, fashion director, The Times

‘The thing no one realises about February London fashion week is that all anyone pays any attention to is your coat. IT'S FEBRUARY! Get your outerwear right and, quite frankly, you could be wearing pyjamas underneath. On occasion, I have been tempted. I dream of Prada’s current feather-trimmed black cashmere beauty, but what I will be wearing is one of my much-loved Paul Smith wool crombies. My absolute favourite is my zebra print. That man really knows how to give a good coat. What will I be wearing underneath? No comment. Though I am not sure if my sumptuous, thick, silk Dolce & Gabbana double-act even counts as jim-jams, so maybe I can tell you after all.’

London’s February forecast isn’t for the faint-hearted. A good coat is a non-negotiable and, luckily, Bond Street has plenty. For those seeking warmth without compromising on style, brands like Moncler offer insulating options, while Gucci and Valentino embrace playful jacquard prints and bold hues. As Anna reminds us, your coat doesn’t just finish the look, it is the look.

Thea Lewis-Yates, fashion editor, Manifesto

‘My dream LFW wardrobe would feature pieces from Alessandro Michele’s debut collection for Valentino, which I adored. Romantic and playful, modern yet still true to Mr Valentino's original aesthetic, it was one of the fashion highlights of 2024. I also loved Chemena Kamali's brilliantly feminine collection for Chloé. One of her heavenly white lace blouses would do very nicely for LFW, thank you! In terms of accessories, I’m coveting a Celine Classique Triomphe bag for the day, Chanel flat Mary Janes for running around town and Simone Rocha ribbon earrings, to add romance to even the most simple look.’

The right accessories can make or break a fashion week look, and for pieces that exude timeless luxury, Van Cleef & Arpels is your destination. Pair with Prada's sunglasses for an air of mystery or go daring with a statement necklace that steals the show. Whether you prefer big and bold or Thea’s subtle and romantic approach, every detail counts.

Eli Ankutse, editor, Joshua’s

‘While I still tend to wear tailoring, I pair a dark-coloured shirt with a tie to give it a less formal appearance while still having a formal edge. My favourite combo for that is my dark brown Brioni shirt with a Canali tie – with the collar-appropriate knot of course. There was a lot of talk about the “mob wife” aesthetic last year, but I think the pared-down male equivalent went fairly under the radar. On foot, ordinarily I’d opt for a loafer, but of late I’ve eschewed these for the more comfortable Saint Laurent Andy trainers, better equipped for rushing between shows.’

You can’t go wrong with a perfectly chosen tie. Whether opting for a bold print or a minimalist classic, the right tie defines the whole dynamic of your outfit. Bond Street offers an array of options to suit every aesthetic: Tom Ford’s sleek silk designs exude modern luxury; Hermès delivers playful prints steeped in heritage and Brioni’s handmade pieces are a masterclass in craftsmanship.
