At his eponymously named restaurant in Hanover Square, Akira Back remains true to his Korean roots and passion for global cuisine by delivering his own contemporary interpretation of Japanese dining. Neutral-toned shared booths and more intimate table arrangements create a light and inviting atmosphere. Echoes of his mother Younghee Back’s abstract artworks adorn the walls, ceilings and menus. Her paintings also decorate the plates that one of his greatest culinary hits, tuna pizza, are served on. Having cemented itself as a favourite among close family and international audiences, the pizza slices gradually reveal Younghee’s design one eighth at a time, for you to delight in the vibrant motifs as well as the umami aioli and truffle flavours. Another notable dish that deserves to be highlighted is the UK exclusive dynamite lobster. Pickled shimeji mushrooms and micro coriander add subtle fiery elements to enliven this luxurious course.
But Akira Back’s playful experimentation does not end with savoury dishes. His black sesame matcha cake exemplifies his meticulous craftsmanship.
