What's On: FKA Twigs Unveils Groundbreaking Art at Sotheby's

Sotheby's Art Culture What's On

FKA twigs, the visionary musician, dancer, and multi-disciplinary artist, has unveiled a major new work of art at Sotheby’s - titled The Eleven. Staged over two weeks in Sotheby’s New Bond Street galleries, The Eleven brings FKA twigs’ fiercely independent creative vision to the forefront of the contemporary art scene.

The Eleven is a durational artwork, conceived by FKA twigs and performed by a rotating group of eleven ‘movers.’ The piece, developed by FKA twigs over many months, is a physical and artistic quest for self- healing, rooted – in part – in her decades spent in movement practice, somatic healing technique and by implementing conscious action on repeat. FKA twigs herself participates alongside a changing cast of diverse movers from different backgrounds and walks of life.

The Eleven explores themes of healing, transformation and resilience. The eleven movements are designed to tackle one of the eleven aspects of like that FKA twigs has identified as being critical to her own wellbeing, naming each one...

1. Intake = Intake
2. Keychain = Company
3. Crone = Relationship to Technology
4. Minestate = Self-Awareness and Personal Opinion of Oneself 5. Shaping = Environment
6. The Art of Sol = Simplicity
7. Looping = Artistic Creation
8. Opus = Self Expression
9. Truth = The Truth and Spirituality
10. Eusexua Body = Movement
11. Primal Revelation = Nature

Each movement mantra has been designed to be used in daily life, from smaller indescreet movements to larger scale ones that can be performed privately in a safe space. Visitors are encouraged to try adopting the movements to improve their own wellbeing.

Alongside the durational performance, discover FKA twigs personal notebooks, polaroid photos and drawings which all explore the notion of ‘Eusexua’, a term coined by FKA twigs – who has a love of creating new and playful words.

Visit the exhibit at Sotheby's until the 26th September. Explore more here.
