The spectacular Mr Doodle is the latest exhibiting artist at sketch.
The latest solo exhibition from acclaimed British “graffiti spaghetti” artist Sam Cox – aka Mr Doodle – is taking over Mayfair restaurant sketch until 1 September.
sketch & Doodle transforms parts of the artfully eccentric 18th-century townhouse into a vast doodle and, last month, the artist drew in audiences with live doodle performances. Visitors were able to watch the process through which Cox superimposes his world onto ours, treating various surfaces throughout the legendary London institution like his personal, er, sketch pad.
Vibrant illustrations densely populated by his trademark characters, objects and patterns cover sketch’s reception and the walls of the Grade II*-listed venue’s bathroom, as well as its 12 egg-shaped pod loos. sketch is an apt setting for Mr Doodle creations, given its history of experimentation.
This exhibition represents the third instalment of Pearl Lam Galleries’ collaboration with sketch, which strives to foster cross-cultural exchange between the East and West, and has thus far highlighted Chinese, African and British voices.
‘The timing of Mr Doodle’s inauguration at sketch could not be more fitting,’ says sketch’s founder, Mourad Mazouz. ‘The artist’s obvious talent coupled with his sense of fun will bring joy to our many national and international visitors – the world has never needed sunshine and a cup full of happiness as much as the present; no one can deliver this more than Mr Doodle.’

Meanwhile, Pearl Lam, founder of Pearl Lam Galleries, explains, ‘Mr Doodle’s mission is to create a universal doodle language that resonates profoundly with all of us. This exhibition is a joyous tribute to the ability of art to bridge boundaries and spark significant dialogues.’
